Yes Keith, the metabi is for ph control. Most modern formulas do contain both especially in machine processing.

There is a considerable difference between the two, Sodium or Potassium Meta bisulfite and Sodium sulfite. The first two are interchangeable with some adjustment for molecular weight difference and the "salt" is a preservative or oxygen scavenger.

I have to agree. Our B & W photographic chemistry business is growing at a rate that I have not seen for several years.

The fixer is old. It has crystalized because the pH has changed to the point that the sulfur drops out. It will not go back into solution. You can do the film test to see if the fixer will still clear film. You will need to filter the fixer concentrate before using. BUY NEW FIXER.

Certainly the most influential aspect of tone is the "color" of the base. I have found, and it is well documented, that the type of antifog is also influential in the tone. They can be and are more than subtle.
