fixer question

I've been fixing Tri-x film with Ilford Rapid fixer for about five minutes which seems to me a fairly generous time [the leader clears in about one minute to one minute and a half] . The negative seems perfect but i'm still getting a thin opaque mark on the rebate where the film touches the stainles...

air bubbles!!!

Could someone please give me some ideas on how to finally rid myself of this problem. I'm using metal tanks, presoaking for two minutes and agitating both presoak and developer by regular inversions. I also rap the tank on a hard surface a few times every agitation but still i can't cure the problem...

leaving top bay empty in developing tank

In an effort to promote better agitation and more even development, I'm experimenting with leaving the top bay empty in my tank and using slightly less developer. Just wanted to canvass opinion as to whether i should put an empty spiral in the top or leave it out, allowing the full spirals to ride u...

Thanks for the tip, Mike. Unfortunately since i'm developing in my kitchen it's difficult to drop the spirals into the dev. I've never really noticed bad streaking on my films though i have been prone to uneven development occasionally. I seem to have sorted this out now with a pre-soak and fairly l...

Thanks for the advice.I've looked on B&H site and found an eight film tank of the type i want. That said, it's a little too big for me, as i do worry about the time it takes to fill it and the processing time implications. I'll probably make do with that if i can't find a six film tank [in which ...

Stainless steel tanks

Could anyone tell me where i might still find stainless steel tanks in the UK?It seems both Process Supplies and Silverprint no longer stock them.I'm looking for the ten inch one that does five rolls of 35mm.Not sure of the make but it's the type with the black rubber top. Many thanks in advance.

Many thanks to Ornello and Robert.I'm sure this was a more elementary question than you are accustomed to on this forum, but i'm grateful for the advice nevertheless. Re de-ionised or distilled water, this seems prohibitively expensive to me.Could i substitute this with bottled water or a good filter ...

to squeegee or not to squeegee

I've had some problems scratching the occasional film which i can only assume is a consequence of squeegeeing.Having tried all manner of things including changing my squeegee and softening the squeegee in warm water, i've now given up and have started to use a piece of shammy leather which i just ru...
