Right! There is NO WAY that you can underexpose film and pull a decent image out of it!

Keith, you may want to post this on APUG. Roger spent a lot of time there.

Re: Roger Hicks
Yes, very sad. I was just thinking about him the other day. I learned a lot from reading his articles and from his website. I hope someone can keep it up & running.

Re: measuring spoon method
Jim, there's a table in the back of the Darkroom Cookbook that has the conversion from grams to teaspoons. Tables are also available online.

Re: Agfa APX100 pushed to 400 in d76
2 stops is quite a bit, but you can try D-76; I can't give you a starting time, tho'. You could try Acufine, which gives a time of 9 min. for EI 400. This would be rather expensive to do just one for of film. Can you re-take these photos at the paper setting?

Re: 120 Tri-x @ 1600 in HC-110
Thanks. Diafine is pretty easy, but I don't get quite the 1600 EI with TX that they recommend, more like 1000. I've never been able to get the lifespan out of mine that some folks do. It was recommended on APUG that I use a pre-soak for all divided devs. I have started to use that and so far, so goo...

You have under-exposed your film. Nothing can be done.

Very, very helpful.

Re: 120 Tri-x @ 1600 in HC-110
Tri-X (TX) is a 400 speed film. This has been set by Kodak. TX likes to be exposed at or near 400, depending on lighting conditions and personal taste. When you expose TX at an EI other than 400, (EI is exposure index, not the same as ISO. If you have your meter set at 400, but shoot TX at another s...

Lots of folks use SD very successfully. Give it a try, there's more than one opinion out there.

Re: Increasing Exposure Latitude in B&W 35mm film
You can use Rodinal, thousands of other photographer do. You can dilute it up to 1+300, but 1+50 to 1+100 are the most common. It can give you great negatives...if you know what you're doing. You can also use a staining developer like Pyrocat HD or WD2D. Yes, the negs come out stained. This stain he...
