Re: How to properly make PaRodinal
Mixing rodinal and xtol probably did not work out in the long run. Haven't seen anything about it lately on photo.net or apug. jim In very few cases will mixing two very different developers give you a result 'intermediate' between the two. The developing agent in Rodinal needs a strong alkali to w...

Re: How to properly make PaRodinal
Mixing developers using different alkalis is not sensible.pirateoversixty wrote:Kenny:
Your getting a little more complex than I would go, but I did consider adding a little sea salt to the basic formula. Have you tried combining parodinal with xtol yet? This mixture seems to be popular in some quarters

What times would you suggest, and dilution? I have found Pan F+ to be a hassle, but I am stubborn, sort of. Might like to try it again.

Re: Kodak Panchromatic Separation 2238
Hi everyone! I'm searching dev times for Kodak Panchromatic Separation (ISO 25) 2238 film, but i can't find it (the Kodak page only show information of how develop this film with machine), does any one has developed this film in D-76 (stock)? In this site i found that someone developer with D-76 (1...

I would not use HC110 with Pan-F, unless it was highly diluted.

I assume this is the fx-39 you referred to in you January post last year. I am guessing that you are finding it meets your standards vis a vis other developers.
Jim
It is very good, perhaps the sharpest developer I have ever used, with very fine grain.

Re: pushing ulterafine extreme 400 to 1600 with a gsd10 st
What dev times are you using with FX39? These images from films developed in FX39 look good. https://www.flickr.com/search/?text=adox%20fx39&view_all=1 Jim, your link doesn't seem to be working. Basically, I use the times given by Paterson for 1+9 dilution, but dilute 1+14 instead. I also rate the ...

Re: pushing ulterafine extreme 400 to 1600 with a gsd10 st
Lots of folks use SD very successfully. Give it a try, there's more than one opinion out there. http://www.apug.org/forums/search.php?searchid=5205381 I use gentle, minimal agitation, two inversions (with rotation) once per minute. I also fill the tank almost to the top, leaving only a small amount...

Re: pushing ulterafine extreme 400 to 1600 with a gsd10 st
probably totally unrelated to OP, but have been browsing old copies of "darkroom and creative camera techniques", and in the nov/dec 1989 issue, Phil Davis gives his take on agitation, and what causes streaks and so forth. his desire for even development resulted in his "reinvention" of tube proces...

Re: pushing ulterafine extreme 400 to 1600 with a gsd10 st
(yawn) here we go again. If you would like to view a discussion between jay de fehr and ornello, go back aways. they fought stand to a standstill. can't agree with orny on streaking, but I have found inconsistent results with stand. I used hc-110 119 parts water to 1 part syrup. some good, some not...

Re: pushing ulterafine extreme 400 to 1600 with a gsd10 st
Stand development was used with glass plates in a horizontal position. Attempting it with roll film in a tank will cause streaking, as the development by-products (which suppress development because they are acidic) are heavier than the developer solution and will run down the film drawn by gravity ...

Re: Increasing Exposure Latitude in B&W 35mm film
Most people don't understand how film works. The latitude and speed of the emulsion are largely determined in manufacture. Slow films are slow because the crystals are small, and each crystal is less likely to be struck by a photon because of that. It therefore takes more exposure (more photons) to ...

Re: Increasing Exposure Latitude in B&W 35mm film
Perhaps, but since it is a proprietary formula I can't say. If you're willing to mix your own, I still think D-23 1:1 is hard to beat for control of highlights.Keith Tapscott. wrote:Ethol T.E.C appears to be a developer of the Beutler type.
