Again, the term full tonal range. It is generally recognized that this is unachievable when pushing, though I must say that Appleyards photo using diafine was really fine-looking.

Re: Lomo Lady Grey
I just read something last nite that indicated the lady was t-max. differences in developing times may indicate a different target CI.

Re: FX39
ornello: Our film developing schemes are almost identical. The only part I am ambivalent about is the prewash. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. As I have said before, I shoot mostly 120 as I prefer the bigger viewfinder image. What is your preferred film with this developer? I have been using Ultr...

Re: 120 Tri-x @ 1600 in HC-110
Jim: Excellent result with Diafine. Much better than I was ever able to get with the stuff. Had good results with Acufine, though. All I can think of is that Orny must not have been using a developer suitable to push with, or something else with his technique. Again, very nice pic with the Diafine. ...

ornello:
my eyes glazed over before I finished the article, but aren't these procedures geared more for the lab(commercial) people? I'm sorry, maybe I zonked out before I got to the part about condenser/diffusion enlargers. also, I have not seen test strips for amateur bw use before.

Ornello
Many folks are hung up about grain in the print. My personal favorite sizes are 5x7 and 11x14. Though I tend to shoot more 120 than 35mm, what can I expect from 400-speed traditional film in either format?
TIA

Re: 120 Tri-x @ 1600 in HC-110
Jim Appleyard: I don't think Ornello really believes what he is saying here. There is obviously too much evidence to the contrary concerning pushing film two stops and beyond. Either he is having fun by provoking an argument or he simply refuses to look at prints and negs that are produced by filmth...

Re: FX39
FX-39 seems to be appearing more often on some forums as developer of choice. Curious to read what you think of it.

Re: 120 Tri-x @ 1600 in HC-110
Orny: please explain what you mean, "nothing can be done". tri-x has been underexposed two stops for decades, with results that have satisfied the shooter. though the results may not be satisfactory by your standards, if they were so terrible to other people, who have continued to do it, what does t...

this has been ornello's mantra for years, and fortunately, not everybody has bought into it. true, you may lose some "shadow detail" but so what. you probably didn't want to take a picture of shadows anyway. anyway, yes, the syrup is mixed with the final volume of water. for example, my current pref...

Re: bergger pancro 400 120
just finished second roll of the bergger. since this is an entirely subjective review, take it for what it is worth. the first roll was developed in d-76 1:1 for 17'. thought this was rather long, but that is what the instructions say. fix for 6'. again, for rapid fixer, a long time. negs a little g...

Re: bergger pancro 400 120
developed first roll today, D-76 1:1, for 17' @68 degrees f. This is Bergger's recommended time for this combo. I thought it a bit long, but figured, oh well. Negs came out perfect, by my estimation. Previewed them on V500. How they wet print may be a different story. A few observations: the backing...
