Re: Acid type Rapid Fixers - request recommendation

Thanks to both of you. You have thwarted my ulterior motives. After pouring out Diafine's Solution B, I'd hoped to do a 60sec rinse/wash with fresh tap water (at appropriate temperature) followed by two-stage fixing with the ECO-PRO Neutral Fixer. I've been reading the old Silvergrain.org stuff acce...

Acid type Rapid Fixers - request recommendation

I've read else where that Diafine's Solution B has a pH of 14. Additionally, I've read that because use of a STOP BATH with Diafine development is not recommended, it also means you need an acid type Rapid Fixer. My first idea was Clayton Chemical's Rapid Fixer, but the write-up said "[it] is non-co...

Re: Film Scanners

Who makes a decent one? What about discontinued products? For discontinued, Nikon scanners have a very high reputation. I got the best information by going to hamrick.com (the Vuescan software website) and slowly looking at the specifications for scanners his software supports. As soon as tax seaso...

Re: Photo sites

I don't like M cameras, never have, even though I know the lenses are better than R lenses. I'm a reflex guy. Hah! Although I share you feelings towards M cameras, finally I can dispute with Ornello. I love my 90mm M lens, but I don't think its MTF curves will ever compare with yours. Additionally,...

Re: Photo sites

What is Kodachrome Project? This website is better (imho). http://sites.google.com/site/ronaldandrews/kodachrome but here is the "The Kodachrome Project" (don't blame me) http://www.kodachromeproject.com/ I shoot with a 90mm summicron M, apochromatic/aspherical and do not expose Kodachrome as well ...

Re: Photo sites

I put up a few more . . . Best ever skin tones from your Kodachromes. I especially liked the photographs using 200 speed. For each of your Kodachromes, especially the newer ones, the exposure you chose seems really spot on. Not sure I've ever seen anything comparable at the Kodachrome Project site....

Re: Photo sites

I have added a few more shots. Your rugby shots are great, all the Rugby players where I work said they were good. Were they taken on C41 process & converted, or on B/W negative? Did you use the 180mm or the 560mm? Great capture of the stiff arm. The three "Under a bridge ..." photographs look like...

Re: Photo sites

There are some new ones. http://www.flickr.com/photos/ornello/5559377788/#/photos/ornello/5559377788/lightbox/ Thanks for taking the time to post them. 0606039-R1-071-34 "Girl apparently in tears": Not sure I understand the skin color in this one. Shoulders might be due to suntan but the top half o...

Re: Gene Nocon On Photography.

Keith, Thanks for posting this link. I enjoyed watching it. Is it me, or is there a bit of schizophrenia at work when, at one point Nocon praises how much more detail he could get out of the highlights and shadows if he got his hands on the original negative of a fashion photograph, using digital eq...

Re: Photo sites

What do you like about that shot? It is just a girl laughing with her friend. I know nothing of correct terminology in photographic criticism. Certainly every observation you made for the specific shots you listed is true. All the shots you posted were worth viewing, the image I referenced just gra...

Thank you! But my favorite is this one: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ornello/5497042589/#/photos/ornello/5497042589/lightbox/ Hah! This one had so much right going for it I couldn't even bring myself to feel resentment about its success as an image. http://www.flickr.com/photos/ornello/5497933950/i...

Re: Photo sites

Thanks. All taken with Leicaflex SL2, 180mm Elmarit-R and 350mm Telyt-R on Fuji NPH. I liked especially the infant's eyes in photo 0606039-R1-043-20. All the shots were a treat to view. What is "Fuji NPH"? Is it the same as the Fuji 400H that B&H has? Or is it some well preserved stock you've kept,...

You guys are great. The three I most wanted to hear from. Now, if only I could convince DIGITALTRUTH to sell me a single pack of Xtol, rather than the entire case, I could have a single source for all chemicals. Meantime, thanks to you, I found what I wanted at B&H. @Ornello: As soon as I start proc...

request for Thermometer suggestions

Decades ago I had a nice mercury thermometer, with graduations in both Centigrade and Fahrenheit. Better yet, it had graduation marks at 0.5 degree increments on the Fahrenheit scale. Just because I hadn't used it in well over 10 years, I sold it off. Now I'd like some recommendations for a reliable...
