Re: How to properly make PaRodinal

Jim: If you use 30 tablets, you will obtain approx: 14 grams of Acetaminophen, plus the filler. There is nothing wrong with using more Aceteminophen. I use 15 tablets, giving approx: 8 grams of Acetaminophen. But I also do something else to the Acetaminophen, I add 10ml of Muriatic Acid. And obtain ...

Re: Getting Closer to a Panthermic 777 developer

What you stated is true, yet the Watkins factors for developing agents is all over the place, depending on which book and information you chose to believe or embrace. If you go by the Watkins factor in TM11-662, that was used by the US Military in the 1930's to the 1950's, then you have one standard...

Re: Getting Closer to a Panthermic 777 developer

Ornello: I have visited the Unblinkingeye site on many occasions, and I have read and re-read its contents. They speak about their experience, nothing relating to their over all studies. They have adopted Germaine Morris formula as Harvey 777. The Germaine formula is being sold by Photographer Formu...

Getting Closer to a Panthermic 777 developer

I have been working with this formula for years now, and I called DuPont last week, and got no where with one of its personnel. So I started going through all of my materials on Defender, DuPont, and Harvey's 777 film developer products. Then I came across the two product reviews on Panthermic 777. ...

Re: Playing around with a Microdol- X Substitute

Keith, that is a good formula, and I think that we are getting closer to the true Microdol-X formula. I say that because I seen a similar formula in patent, and I will look for it this weekend. 4-chlororesorcinol, is used in hair dye, as a coupler. It is toxic to the skin in high dose, any thing gre...

Re: Playing around with a Microdol- X Substitute

Keith Microdol-X was a general purpose go to fine grain developer that replaced DK-20 in that role. It can be used for roll and sheet film. Many photographers, started using it instead of DK-50 or DK-60, as their general purpose developer. I do not think that Microdol-X was considered a "super ...

Re: Playing around with a Microdol- X Substitute

Oh yes good Buddie, I am into Phenidone and Dimezone. I have purchase a 1 pound of each, so I can use it in testing. I have 200 feet of Kodak black and white test films, in 5 foot lengths. 25,64, 100 125, and 400 asa. I intend to do some fun things to those puppies. First, destroy about 2 feet of te...

Re: Playing around with a Microdol- X Substitute

Ornello..., Kodak did spend large sums of money on research, yet those sums were not directed at black and white research. Kodak had gotten itself into a war with Agfa/Ansco, in being the first to develop and produce cheaply, color photography. There were huge rewards to be made, for being the first...

Re: Playing around with a Microdol- X Substitute

I regret that I sound defensive in my writings, it is part of my long career as a researcher. You discover that you must sometimes fight for ones positions when you are engaged in research. In many of the journals that I have reviewed, covering the years 1899 to 1904. I have come across a handful of...

Re: Playing around with a Microdol- X Substitute

We have a small misdirection here or understanding as to what it is that I am trying to do, and what some people may assume. I use D23, as a reference, and even thou most people think that the formula is Kodak's, it actually belong to Bogish and Hauff, the two persons that discovered Metol in 1891, ...

Re: Playing around with a Microdol- X Substitute

I got my idea for the formula from Momme Andresen"s USP # 477,486, Charles J. Thatcher USP # 1,158,011 and the Darkroom Cookbook. D-23 and Rodinal are the bases for the formula, and by the simple yet photographic chemistry of both formulas. They will be able to aid and provide both formulas and ...

Playing around with a Microdol- X Substitute

I have gotten some good results from this formula and I will continue to test it. I am posting it, to share it with some of you that may like to fool around with it. Microdol-X Substitute Fine Grain film developer Water, 125F/52C 750 ml Metol 5.0 g Sodium Sulfite (anhydrous) 70.0 g Para Aminophenol ...

Re: How to properly make PaRodinal

Yes Jim: Just slowly pour the drain cleaner into the tylenol and sulfite solution. You no longer have to mix the crystals, as you did in the past. The drain cleaner is a 50/3 percent mixture of sodium and potassium hydroxides, so the overall ph will be in its standard range of 11 to about 11.7. The ...

Re: How to properly make PaRodinal

Ornello..., my friend......... You position is correct on all levels. And Geoffrey Crawley's, is as well. Yet if a person living in Thailand or Indonesia, may lack the funds to purchase metol, or have little to no access to it. PaRodinal, may be its only way out. PaRodinal, when used correctly can p...

620 Roll Film for the Masses

Hello everyone: I have been in contact with Foma, and I have been requesting that they manufacture 620 roll film for the millions of 620 roll film cameras still out there. This is a very important point and should be pursued to its end. Why? Well to make a long story, longer. We were all forced away...
