measuring spoon method

Occasionally, I will mix my own film developers, not that I can't afford to by ready-mixed, but because I enjoy doing it, and it adds to the personal involvement in the production of the end product, the photograph.

I have a formula for Adox borax MQ developer. I would like to mix up this concoction using the teaspoon method. Does anyone have a method of converting grams to teaspoons for this developer?

Metol 2g
Sodium sulphite (anhydrous) 80 g
Hydroquinone 4g
Borax 4g
Potassium bromide .5 g
water to 1 litre

thanx.

addendum: same formula as listed in the formula section here. water should read 1000 ml.

Just get a precision scale. They're easily available.

could you suggest one? I have an electric, but it doesn't measure fractions of grams.

Hi Jim,

I have found spoon measurements for making D-23 developer, but not for those of the D-76 type of which the Adox formula is derived. This particular developer is designed to be used without further dilution and replenished with the following formula according to the British Photographic Almanac of 1959 (Centenary Edition).

Metol 3g
Sodium Sulphite, anhydrous 80g
Hydroquinone 5g
Borax 18g
Water to make 1 litre.

If you are wanting to dilute the developer for one-shot use, stick with the standard D-76/ID-11 formula or Gevaert G206 formula. Dilute either of these from 1+1 up to 1+3.

For one-shot use, it's probably better to keep M.Q Borax types free from KBr.

Keith:
You are probably right; I do like to dable now and then, but I have found few formulae to be as consistently "right" as D-76. So, I did go with D-76 spooned.
Thanx
Jim

Jim, there's a table in the back of the Darkroom Cookbook that has the conversion from grams to teaspoons. Tables are also available online.
