Pushing Ilford FP4

Post by _loaf_ »

I recently finished a roll of FP4. I shot it at 800ISO. I can't find any times in the charts for any chemical for push processing FP4 three stops. Does anybody have some hints or maybe some time tested mathematical equation for pushing film?

The film is severely underexposed. Nothing you can do in processing to remedy this.

Ornello, of course, is looking for the perfect neg. Obviously, you won't get it with an ei of 800. But, it is not all gloom and doom. Go the Massive Development Chart and check out the times for Xtol. They won't be perfect, but quite possibly printable, with a little work. Good luck!!!

METER SETTINGS BELOW EI 50/18
AND ABOVE EI 200/24
If FP4 Plus has been inadvertently exposed at
settings below EI 50/18 or above EI 200/24, the
following guide will ensure usable negatives are
obtained. Obviously, the quality of negatives
processed in this way will not be so high as
conventionally processed ones.

Manual processing (min/20ºC/68ºF) –
accidental exposure only
ILFORD Dilution Meter setting
developer EI EI
25/15 400/27
and and
below above
MICROPHEN stock – 16
PERCEPTOL stock 81/2 –

I am sure that Ornello is waiting with baited breath, wondering how this roll of film turned out. Useable, I hope.

You can push film but it doesn't do any good.
