selenium toning

Post by catcattttt »

Very simple question.

How much darker in shadow area after selenium toning?

This is the first time I use selenium toner for my print (just archival purpose), but i didn't know it will darken my print.

I worry after selenium toning, the details in shadow area will be gone.
so, How much darker in shadow area after selenium toning?

( i am using ilford FB paper, not warmtone)

thankyou..

The differences are very subtle on MG-FB paper with selenium toner, but can cause slight colour shifts with other papers.

My own preference is to wash the paper thoroughly and to use a final rinse in ADOX AG-STAB which was formerly known as Agfa Sistan. This solution also slightly enhances the density of the blacks.

Sistan is a silver image stabilizer which enhances the archival properties of the paper without the colour shifts that can sometimes happen with selenium toner.
Simply follow the instructions on the label on the bottle if this product is of any interest to you. I like to retain the natural tones of the papers that I use.

I have used Sistan in the past. I bought a bottle of the Adox Adostab, and I used on some film, just like I used to with e Sistan, and I ended up with a sticky mess at the bottom corners. It took me a long time with film cleaner to get it off, and I lost a little of the images. I followed the dilution and processing directions. Has anyone else seen this. I'm not sure I'll use it again if this is going to happen again.

I have only ever used Sistan as a final rinse for FB papers, never for films. I just use a normal wetting agent diluted with distilled water for films.
